Collage clocks began with one girl’s love for cheese, the simple joy in life.
I was looking for a way to de-stress during my first Massachusetts winter. As someone from California, I wasn’t used to spending so much time indoors. I kept looking at this blank white clock we got from IKEA, and thought how cool it would be to make a collage that could then be placed inside the clock.
I had a collage kit I purchased from Make & Mend and decided that whatever content was in it would be used for the clock. I lucked out and found a page with all sorts of cheeses, and voilà, une horloge à fromage (a cheese clock) was born!
I love this silly little piece because there are so many funny puns you can make, like “you’ll always brie on time” or “you mozz have a lot of time on your hands” or “it’s a havarti past a hair.” I could keep going, but I will stop. I also spent a long time studying French in my 20s, so being able to keep my love for the language alive through my art is meaningful.
In November 2025, this clock was featured in Zone 3 Art in Print Volume 22! Art in Print is a public art program by Zone 3 that makes collecting local art as easy as grabbing a newspaper. Since launching in October 2018, we’ve collaborated with over 270 Boston-area artists to produce limited-edition posters available for just 25¢ from custom newspaper bins throughout Allston and Harvard Square.
To help fund the continuation of the workshop series “Collaging over Time,” I am putting out a run of 25 cheese clocks. Since November 2025, I have collaged almost 100 clocks with children, teens, adults, and seniors. With your purchase, this 9 3/4” piece of cheddar could be yours until the end of time!
